The village of Kërçisht in Maqellarë, Dibra hosted a special event,
"Baklava Day", where tradition met entrepreneurship!
The women of Kërçisht welcomed guests into their small workshop, where
they produce homemade goods like noodles, cakes, pickles, jams, and
more. Their goal? To preserve the authentic flavors of their village
while creating sustainable incomes for their families.
Joining the event were women from the neighboring village of Pocest,
showcasing their products under the brand “Prodhimet e Hallës”. This
collaboration emphasized the importance of community, sharing
knowledge, and working together to grow small businesses.
With support from FSRD through the ValueNet project (GIZ/SRD), funded
by the British Embassy, these talented women are turning their passion
and skills into opportunities, promoting local traditions and
contributing to the region’s economic development.
Guests at the event got to experience every step of the baklava-making
process, from rolling the dough to the final golden bake, sharing in
the cultural pride and dedication these women bring to their craft.
This activity wasn’t just about baklava—it was about recognizing the
incredible role women play in preserving traditions, building
connections, and driving economic empowerment in rural communities.
Let’s celebrate their achievements and continue supporting their
inspiring journey!
